a one-of-a-kind historical accommodation in South Tyrol
The “Pfisterhaus” has stood on the Burgeis village square for 800 years. When this gothic farmhouse was first built, people in Upper Venosta Valley were still speaking Romansch. Just as they still do in the neighbouring Val Müstair and Lower Engadine (Switzerland). The farmhouse, dating back to the 13th century, is the oldest part of our historical accommodation in South Tyrol. We have brought the Pfisterhaus back to life and transformed its spaces, which are saturated in centuries of history, into a landmarked hotel. The Mansion zum Löwen offers a uniquely relaxing experience. Where else can you take a luxurious bath in a space that long ago was used for smoking meat?
The Mansion zum Löwen’s main building dates to the 15th century. But there is no dancing in this “ballroom” – it plays host instead to a brisk trade in goods. The princely bishops of Chur store their goods here, such as bolts of cloth, and receive their guests. The wooden coffered ceiling, the facade, the decorative paintings and the bricked staircase all reveal that life was good here indeed. And that’s still true today. The architectural team Marx/Ladurner have transformed these historical rooms into exclusive suites.
Linear, modern and timeless. The suites in the former barn belonging to the Mansion zum Löwen dazzle visitors thanks to their sophisticated charm. Now guests enjoy deep, comfortable sleep under the roof where the prince’s horses used to rest. Lavish glass facades provide breath-taking views of Venosta Valley’s mountainous landscape.
The Mansion zum Löwen’s ground floor is where the residents of Burgeis/Burgusio come together. The small village café is an inviting place for a chat, a good espresso or a juice freshly squeezed from regional fruit. The “Genuss am Platz” delicatessen draws in passers-by with its South Tyrolean delicacies: Venosta Valley bread, Kaminwurz sausages and hearty bacon, aromatic mountain cheeses, and fine wines and spirits make perfect gifts to take home.
